Giglio Island
The island of Giglio is a slice of paradise in the middle of the sea which in spite of its location at a mere 20 km from the coast of Argentario looks like a totally different world. It is amongst the most important and famous tourist attractions of Tuscany and over the years it has gradually grown in visibility and prestige. Over the summer tourists literally take it by storm, swarming over the port of Santo Stefano, the island’s main connection point. Giglio features three settlements: Giglio Porto is the landing place of all boats;
Giglio Castello is the historical centre of the island, situated on its highest part, where the ancient stronghold still stands; Giglio Campese is the most touristy area as it is mainly composed of beaches, it is here that the main private beach clubs and the only camping of the island are located.
- All along the coast of Giglio there are plenty of golden sandy beaches as well as small unspoilt coves,
- different in size, location and with a variety of activities offered.
- The island of Giglio moreover offers plenty of places that deserve a visit within the urban centre.
By the port there is the Museum of Mineralogy and Geology where peculiar minerals extracted in this area are on display. At Giglio Castello instead, on the island’s highest part, visitors can admire what is left of the medieval past of this town.
