Baratti
At the border of the Tyrrhenian and the Ligurian Sea, the Gulf of Baratti used to be one of the main Etruscan ports of the Tuscan coastline. Here, in the proximity of the town Etruscans originated an important industrial hub linked to the manufacture of iron.
As living proof of this, there are the many furnaces, burial mounds and all the other archaeological findings that were discovered here.
The peculiar colour that presently characterises this area is the result of the mixture of sand and of the iron residues that this industry produced.
At the margin of the village of Baratti the natural park of Rimigliano begins, a large green area composed of dense pine groves that borders beautiful beaches.
